From the founder

Why I started Second Key Concierge.

I’ve owned several luxury cars over the years. When I lived in the Midwest, some of them would sit for months during the snowy winters. And when I traveled for weeks at a time, I’d run into the same problem.

Who was going to keep an eye on my cars? Make sure the tires were properly inflated, the batteries were maintained, and everything was in good shape for when I returned?

And even when I was home, there was the other side of ownership: keeping up with maintenance schedules, booking appointments, arranging detailing, and all the little things that come with owning a fine car.

I didn’t want to spend my time thinking about any of that. I just wanted to drive and enjoy my cars.

I didn’t need a full-time caretaker. Just someone reliable who would look after my cars the way I would.

That was surprisingly hard to find, so I created Second Key.

Before Second Key, I spent six years in actuarial work at Swiss Re and Jackson National, where my job was to imagine what could go wrong and prepare for it long before it did.

I still think that way. Now I do it for your car.

Keepwatch visits

Scheduled visits to your garage, whether you’re across town or across the country. Battery and maintainer, tire pressures, leaks, moisture, pests, paint and cabin, all checked and photographed.

Maintenance, handled

We track what’s due, book your dealer or specialist, deliver the car and bring it home. You approve the estimate. We handle everything else.

Always presentable

Washes, interior care, ceramic maintenance and seasonal details from trusted local detailers, scheduled and inspected by us.

Homecoming

Tell us when you’re coming. The car is cleaned, fueled or charged, set to road pressures and waiting where you want it, with a photo before you arrive.

Season close

When you leave for the season, the car is prepared for storage the right way: stabilized, on a maintainer, covered, protected from moisture and documented.

Storm KeepHurricane season protection

When the cone points at our coast, you’ll have one less thing to save.

Evacuations happen in one car. The other usually stays behind, in a garage a few feet above the tide. Storm Keep members never have to make that choice. When a named storm threatens the coast, I move your car to secure indoor storage on high ground, photograph it at every handoff, and bring it home after the all-clear.

How does the first conversation work?

It’s a complimentary 15-minute video call. Pick a time that suits you, and we’ll talk through your car, how you use it, and whether Second Key is the right fit. No obligation.

What kinds of cars do you look after?

Any car you love and want looked after properly, including Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Range Rover, Corvette, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, classics and electric cars. It doesn’t need to be exotic to deserve this.

Do you do the mechanical work yourselves?

No, and that’s deliberate. Your car goes to your dealer or the specialist you already trust, or to one we recommend. We manage the appointment, the delivery, the estimate and the return. You keep the expert. We take the effort.

How is my key kept?

Your second key is tagged with a number, never your name or address, and kept under lock whenever it isn’t in use. It comes back to you the day you ask for it.

Is my car protected while it’s in your care?

Before we take a key, you’ll receive written details of the coverage in place for vehicles in our care, and we’ll walk through it together.

Can you get into gated communities?

Yes. You add Second Key to your community’s vendor or guest list, and we take it from there. We’ll help you set it up for Landfall, Figure Eight Island, Grande Dunes and similar communities.

What happens in a hurricane if I’m not a Storm Keep member?

Text us. If there’s space and time, we’ll help. Storm Keep members always move first, which is why places are limited and reserved before the season.

Which areas do you serve, and is there a travel fee?

Wilmington and the coast within about 90 minutes, from Topsail Beach and Jacksonville to North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. There’s no travel fee within 30 minutes of Wilmington. From 30 to 60 minutes away it’s $45 per visit, and from 60 to 90 minutes it’s $90 per visit.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Memberships are month to month. Text before your next billing date, and your key comes home.
